The Nintendo DS, as usual, had dozens and dozens of titles released this year, but only five could be selected for Best Nintendo DS game of the year.
The Nominees

Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings
Final Fantasy meets real-time strategy meets roleplaying in this engaging game set on a dirigible

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Link makes his debut on the Nintendo DS in this sequel to the GameCube’s Wind Waker

Planet Puzzle League
Wireless multiplayer battles highlight this addictive Tetris variant

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
The long-running “Gotta catch ‘em all” monster training RPG makes its debut on the Nintendo DS

Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords
Infinite Interactive’s surprise hit, an involving Bejeweled-meets-roleplaying game set in the Warlords universe
And the Winner Is:
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Zelda fans first enjoyed Twilight Princess last year for the GameCube and Wii, and Nintendo DS owners got to play Phantom Hourglass. While the game introduced nothing truly new to the series, it was still addictive and used the stylus to great effect.
Runner Up: Pokemon Diamond/Pearl
New features enhanced the first true Pokemon game for the DS, including an underground and Wi-Fi multiplayer. The gameplay more than made up for the rehash of the plot from the original Pokemon games.
