Best PlayStation 2 Game of the Year

The PlayStation 2 continues to chug along, and while its overall software library of 2007 was somewhat weak - its best titles were mostly ports of next-gen systems - it still managed to have some memorable games.

The Nominees

God of War II

Sony’s comically over-the-top violent beat-’em-up returns, with gorgeous graphics and music

Guitar Hero III

Neversoft and Activision take over in the third installment of Red Octane’s addictive guitar game

Odin Sphere

Vanillaware’s beautiful action roleplaying game, following five different stories

Persona 3

Atlus’ creepy, shocking occult-themed roleplaying game set in a high school

Rock Band

Harmonix’s post-Guitar Hero music game goes all out with a maximized band setup of two guitars, drum set and microphone

And the Winner Is:

God of War II

God of War II was a fantastic action/beat ‘em up game that would have been a Game of the Year nominee in any year for the PlayStation 2, having already achieved the rank of one of the best games for the system ever. Oh, and it looks great on the PlayStation 3.

Runner Up: Persona 3

Atlus had two representatives in the awards (the other being Odin Sphere), and Persona 3 just leaked style, especially for those who wanted an RPG off the beaten path.

Jonah Falcon’s PlayStation 2 Game of the Year: God of War II.

Mitchell Dyer’s PlayStation 2 Game of the Year: Odin Sphere.

  1. Mitchell Dyer Says:

More Mitch complaining: God of War comprised of pressing square until you got to watch an uninteresting cinematic. Really, it beat the slightly-less-capable-than-the-next-gen Rock Band? And Odin Sphere? AND Persona?
