Best Wii Game of the Year

It’s hard to judge the Wii’s year in games, when the “best selling” game was Wii Play (which was bundled with extra controllers), and three of the Game of the Year nominees were Mario-licensed games, and four of them first-party titles. The games that were nominated, however, were worthy titles for the best-selling console system.
The Nominees

Mario Strikers Charged
Mario and friends’ fast-paced arcade soccer game with wild, balanced powers

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
The first person shooter trilogy ends on a high note in its debut on the Wii system

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams
The beautiful action-adventure sequel to the classic Genesis game

Super Mario Galaxy
The best 3D Mario platformer since Super Mario 64 leaps into space with lush graphics, music and addictive gameplay

Super Paper Mario
Mario’s 2D/3D platformer makes a successful leap to the Wii with humor and action
And the Winner Is:
Super Mario Galaxy
As if there was any contest here. Super Mario Galaxy was the game to get for the Wii this year, even after owners were pummeled by Mario themed games like Mario Party 8, Super Paper Mario, Mario Strikers Charged, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, and Mario Does Dallas. (Okay, maybe not that last title.) The refined platforming mechanics, the 3D gameplay, the great music and visuals, all add up to the best Wii game ever made in its short lifespan.
Runner Up: Super Paper Mario
The other Mario platformer was a GameCube port, but it was fun enough to merit runner up this year. If there’s one thing Mario does expertly, it’s platform.

Can’t complain here since I didn’t play Galaxy, but the videos have made me wet myself… I don’t know why my name is up there. Perhaps I just agreed?
