Classic Games Just Aren’t The Same

Great classic games continue to invade our gaming senses with the advent of Xbox Live Arcade, Wii Virtual Console and Sony’s downloadable content. We’ll fall sucker to a $5.00 game that we played when we were twelve just to relive the experience if only for a few minutes.
The difference? As arstechnica reports, the game controls and features are not always true to the original. They’ve pointed out a few examples of unfaithful retro reproductions in Mario Kart 64, Kid Icarus, Starfox 64, Frogger, Contra and that beautiful D-Pad control scheme.
The controls are not always perfect the games work, display well on a higher definition (non-1980’s display) and continue to be a joy to play. We just have to remember, we’re not in the 80’s anymore - it may be time to move on.
