According to GamaSutra, legendary Mario and Zelda composer Koji Kondo will be making a rare appearance at the closing ceremonies of the Game Developer’s Conference on March 9th, 2007. He will be joined on the program by video game pianist Martin Leung and an orchestral performance of a medley of LucasArts’ classic games, including Monkey Island, Outlaws and one of the best games ever made, Grim Fandango. Noted voice-over artist Dee Baker (Halo 2, Kingdom Hearts) will also perform, as well as a live synchronized Contra “Jungle Theme” rock-n-roll presentation by “vertexguy” (aka Chris Kline).
That won’t be the only musical moment at the GDC by any stretch of the imagination, though. There will also be Guitar Hero II and Space Invaders competitions, a costume contest where folks will come dressed as their favorite video game characters (hopefully, they don’t do this on their free time), and Kondo will also offer a presentation during GDC titled “Painting an Interactive Musical Landscape”.
(Thanks, GamaSutra.)
