Can’t Code For PS3? Maybe IBM Will Help You

The IBM Cell processor is a beast of a powerhouse but developers have yet to figure out how to tap into its power. Like a hidden jewel developers stare at the chip with awe and a bit of fear.
Yet, you don’t have to be Indiana Jones to steal the wealth of power within the Cell. You just need some guidance and training.
IBM and Vivendi Universal Games along with High Moon Studios and Radical Entertainment will host a session for Vivendi’s game developers in order to educate them on creation of games for the PlayStation 3 game console and more efficiently use the Cell processor.
The idea? Developers will build games for the PlayStation 3 if they can figure out how to harness all the power of the complex design. What better way than teaching the ways of Cell to others!
“The Cell microprocessor, which was jointly developed by IBM, Sony and Toshiba, incorporates one dual-threaded PowerPC core and eight so-called synergistic processing engines (SPEs) intended for floating-point calculations, the most demanding tasks in entertainment, workstation and server systems. The PowerPC core is projected to have 32KB L1 cache and 512KB L2 cache, while each of the SPEs will have…” blah blah blah blah blah blah blah…
If you’ve got the time to learn all the acronyms to start development on this processor perhaps you are halfway to a successful product. For everyone else, a class might be the next best thing to get you on board.
Motivation behind this? IBM produces a powerhouse processor but PlayStation 3’s sit on the shelves lacking any games. If IBM and others can get developers on board with the Cell they’ll increase production, make more money and be on the road to happiness.
IBM is willing to train you to utilize their product so they can make big money off of it. Smart move guys!
