January NPD Results: Wii Dominates

It was about this time last year that Xbox 360 supply finally caught up to demand. The retail drought was basically over, and if you wanted to “jump in,” it was possible to do so without paying hundreds of dollars premium over the retail price.

But one thing is different this year, at least for one of the new current generation consoles. While PlayStation 3s have been easily obtainable for quite a while now, it is still near impossible to find the octogenarian friendly Wii anywhere at retail. Even on eBay, expect to pay quite a lot more than what you would at your local game shop.

The results after the jump:

Nintendo Wii: 436,000 units

Microsoft Xbox 360: 294,000 units

Sony Playstation 3: 244,000 units

Sony Playstation 2: 300,000 units
