TeamXbox has an interview with developer Treyarch’s Chris Archer about the upcoming licensed videogame tie-in to blockbuster film coming this Summer Spider-Man 3, for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
In the interview, Archer discusses the new Dragon’s Lair-like “cineractives” in which you have minimal, fast-paced decisions during preset scenes (think Shenmue II), an upgraded Spidey-sense in which one can actually visualize enemies and relevent objects, a brand-new, upgraded swinging style, and, of course, The Symbiote, a living alien organism, that transforms Spidey into a more violent, rage-filled version of himself.
The interview goes on to say that wearing the “black suit” opens up new abilities and a “rage meter” that determines what sort of fighting style you adopt. Once you conclude all the “black suit” missions and shed it, you go back to the “red suit”, but with added abilities. Archer is coy about other playable characters, but most comic fans will assume you get to play as Venom, Spidey’s arch-nemesis who is the successor to the black alien symbiote.
You can read the entire interview here. The game’s release date coincides with the film’s debut: May 4th, 2007.

Another film-to-game release. Yuck. It’s about as bad as game to film releases.
Stick with innovation, don’t try to follow the plot of a movie and work it into a video game. You just end up with a half hearted game.

Hi Chris,
I seriosly cannot wait for your new Spider-man game, I bet it is going to rock. But what got my mind spinning in worry was why did you make the extra goblin feature for the ps3 and not for the 360. I mean Im dying to try out the new goblin as i do with the game. It just doesnt make sense, usually you want to make your fans happy with your games. But instead you give even better goodies to half of those fans while leaving the other half of the fans unhappy that they wont get the same chance to play the new goblin like others. Well I hope I gave you some thought about this matter, and would be awsome if there were something you could do. Thanks for taking your time reading this letter, and if you have any responses email me back.
Your,
half happy half sad fan,
Dillon Turner
