The Machinima Awards
I was in peak Oscar excitement last night. Which means I watched the opening by Ellen Degeneris, ogled those women who escort the winners off-stage, and then played Oblivion for a while. I flipped back just in time to catch who won best picture and best director. Big ups to Scorsese.
All this got me thinking, when will we finally elect a video game playing president and the cultural elite do too, will machinima have its own Oscar? Well, until then, we have Slate.com to fill in the void. In a recent article, associate editor Michael Agger compiled what he considered the best machinimas.
Overall, Agger’s picks in follow the typical Academy Award traditions: comedies such as Red Vs. Blue got shafted and a unfunny high brow comedy Red And Blue got top billing.
Similarly, a piece about race wars was fawned over for its realism and the most sophisticated and interesting film is French. Check the article and weigh in with your favorite machinimas below.
P.S. Did you see Nicholson? I was convinced that a terrorist was wearing his skin (a la Silence of the Lambs) and then when best picture nomination was announced - BAM! - Anthrax attack.

Red vs. Blue is classic. I also like those World of Warcraft music videos on youtube.
Yes, I’m a closet youtuber…
