New Mass Effect Info

While we still can’t get an official release date out of Bioware, Project Director Casey Hudson gave 1up a few new snippets of information on this years Oblivion-ish space adventure.
Similar to Oblivion’s release, many gamers were wondering whether or not 9GB would be enough to hold the epic universe within Mass Effect. Hudson mentions that the game is “just barely” cramming its way onto the (very) slowly dying DVD format.
It looks like standard 9GB DVD’s aren’t quite dead yet, if the size of the universe of Mass Effect is any bigger than Oblivion’s world, it is safe to say that 360 and Wii gamers will be okay for the forseeable future.
Among other news, he mentions how customizable the character is, which is probably expected from fans of this genre. He also mentions the soundtrack, which he describes as a “huge original score.” For the most part pretty safe stuff, and mostly just the obvious stuff one could expect from a game of Mass Effects potential caliber.
Now if only we could just get a concrete release date out of Bioware. Many websites have Bioware listed to ship out sometime in May, although projected dates vary significantly within the month. About a month ago a rumor spawned from the Xbox Australian site listing a date of May 18, 2007, but was quickly pulled and debunked by Microsoft.
(Thanks 1up.)

Considering how much data we were able to get into Cartridge games before they died off I’m not too surprised.
Developers are innovative, creative and learn to make due with what they have. They stretch things beyond normal means because they’re smart folks.
In some cases restricting storage size and other sizes (memory, etc.) help creative people maximize the total possibilities of the system.
Give them too much storage and memory and they can get sloppy with its usage because “there’s no worries - we’ve got plenty.”
Yes, I’m qualified to say that - I’m a software engineer as well
