Considering how much data we were able to get into Cartridge games before they died off I'm not too surprised.

Developers are innovative, creative and learn to make due with what they have. They stretch things beyond normal means because they're smart folks.

In some cases restricting storage size and other sizes (memory, etc.) help creative people maximize the total possibilities of the system.

Give them too much storage and memory and they can get sloppy with its usage because "there's no worries - we've got plenty."

Yes, I'm qualified to say that - I'm a software engineer as well :)
