GamePro has an interesting interview with Peter Molyneux about his upcoming uber-RPG for the Xbox 360, Fable 2, where we discover Americans are good, the British are evil, and the difficulting in making truly evil villains.
An excerpt:
GP: In video games, evil people aren’t ever as evil as people actually are in real life, are they?
Molyneux: That is a very interesting. Yesterday we had a fantastic conversation. We were talking about the bad guy in Fable 2 and I was saying, look, we have to make him bad. I mean he has to be really bad. It is not good enough for him to do just this; he has to do this and this and this and I went so far over the top that one of the other people in the story meeting completely lost it. He said, “I will never play a game that has this, this, and this in it!” And my point was exactly what your point is. If we were Hollywood and we wanted to make the audience watching our film think this guy has to die because he is so evil, so bad, so terrible; then what steps do you have to take to actually establish that?
(Thanks, GamePro.)
