Euro and Future PS3 Owners Screwed: Sony’s Not Updating Old PS2 Games

Weird, recently everything that Sony ridiculed Microsoft for doing with the launch of the Xbox 360, they’ve gone ahead and did the same exact thing. First it was the two SKUs, then it was software emulation of backward compatible games.
But now Sony has taken the initiative and gone one step further (or backwards depending on how you look at it) by saying that “old” PS2 games aren’t really a priority to get working on the system, instead they rather work on bringing new applications and updates to the PS3.
Director of Corporate Communications Nick Sharples said:
We are pleased with the number we have been able to make playable for the European launch, but as we have made clear before, our focus going forward will be on innovative new applications and services for PS3 rather than on backwards compatibility…We will test all forthcoming PS2 titles, but it would be unrealistic to expect significant increases in the number of playable PS2 titles in future firmware upgrades given the above. Whilst J&D and MGS are not listed as playable, their successors MGS3 and Jak and Daxter 2 are playable

If Sony were a human being, I’d be checking out services to figure out what to do about someone with suicidal tendencies…
