Capcom Says, “More Wii Games Coming Soon”

1Up reports Resident Evil is still on track for a 2007 Nintendo Wii release date but they also quoted Capcom stating “more unannounced” titles are in the works. The problem being the titles are unannounced and thus we can only grasp at wisps of greatness that could but may never be…
Here is a little stooge list of games that would be neat to see utilize the Wii control scheme (maybe Capcom will work on a few of them):
- 1942: A full top down war plane game with wii tilt sensitivity! Imagine having to perform loops with the wii controller to invoke an evasion! Hot.
- Gun.Smoke: An Ikari Warriors style shooter! It could be implemented like Wii Play’s Tanks! using the nunchuck to move your hero and the wiimote to aim and fire.
- Mega Man: No clue how to implement it but that’s really not our job. We just want a new Mega Man game dammit (new does not mean virtual console port either.)
- Strider: We need a Wii game that utilizes the wii controller and a sword to perfection (read: not Red Steel).
- Final Fight: The Wii is lacking on some good ol’ punching games. What better way to relieve the stress of a work day than to beat the hell out of someone. Imagine Wii Boxing but in a back ally with a pocket dagger included.
- Capcom Soccer Shootout: Imagine, for one second, taping the Wiimote to your leg and… okay, bad idea.
- ClayMates: Fun with puddy, perhaps in this release we could actually create our own clay battle figures by rolling them up and building them “from scratch” Cooking Mama style.
- Street Fighter: We have to include this since its Capcom’s staple product (as seen from the dozens of franchise release.) What better way to play the Wii then to have your ass handed to you by Mike Tyson, I mean M. Bison or wait, is it Balrog?
Anyway, one could sit down and ponder Capcom title remakes forever… what we want is a non-port of an old game. We want something new yet something familiar with a “retro feel” yet not retro. Just create a kick ass game with some characters we know and love. Is that so hard?

Time Pilot and Gyruss are examples of games that feature upgraded graphics and particle effects. But this is Nintendo – you can’t preview and you’ll never ever have updated versions.

Not just upgraded graphics, real games.
I.e. I don’t think we need yet more XBLA ports of games that were great “back in the day.”
Frogger for instance… upgraded graphics on the Xbox 360, but you know what? It’s still #)@$* frogger.
Now, we we can just get Nintendo to allow for downloadable demo’s but let’s face it, if you could download a demo of Kid Icarus would you buy the full? It only takes a few minutes to realize your mistake…

Time Pilot is addictive and fun. So is Gyruss – and I’ve played it on MAME a ton, so it really still holds up.
TMNT, not so much. :p

I’d rather play the original Zelda over Gyruss. However, I’ve not bought Zelda yet, nor considering Gyruss.
Too many “new games” (read, games developed today) for downloading a few ports.

You’re forgetting some of the original IPs coming to XBLA, especially via XNA.

I’m not forgetting anything. Just sitting here waiting
XNA development for great titles will take some time I believe, its very new and there are a lot of libraries that aren’t written yet (you cannot use old C ported physics libraries for instance, you have to do full re-writes).
Over time it should get better, that’s the point of XNA anyway. We’ll see if they’re easier on the indy guys and get some good innovation on there. So far, its slim.

What about Small Arms, etc?

What about it? Looks great, very classy. I want more. Consumers love to consume! Wohoo!!
