Final Fantasy XIII Going Multiplatform?

In an interview with a French newspaper, Sony executive Georges Fornay revealed that Square Enix may go multiplatform with Japanese uber-RPG title Final Fantasy XIII, stating:
“The development costs of games have exploded, and it has become more difficult to have exclusives, outside of our own games. But we have for launch day [in France] 30 games, including MotorStorm, Resistance: Fall of Man, and Virtua Fighter 5. Moreover, we are expecting 200 games [for the PS3] by the end of 2007…As far as Final Fantasy XIII goes, I can tell you that the exclusivity is in discussion.”
There’s no comment from Square Enix, however, so it remains to be seen. However, with other major titles for the PlayStation 3 going to where the money is (namely, the Xbox 360), how soon before this title joins the other third party titles in the multiplatform arena?

Final Fantasy is a “console buyer” for hardcore gamers that are awaiting this title with drooling anticipation.
The PlayStation 3 is determined to gain momentum from hardcore gamers: it is their demographic (casual gamers won’t drop $600 for a “toy”).
So… if they lose this exclusive they’re going to lose the interest of many hardcore gamers.
Then, what you have left are hardcore gaming playstation fanboys. That pool is a bit smaller than the whole of the industry (at least as far as hardcore gamers go).
Bad news for Sony if true.
