Handheld Consoles a $10B Market

Research firm DFC Intelligence announced that the handheld console market featuring the GameBoy DS, Sony PSP, and others would grow to be a $10 billion market by 2011, and could even exceed the combined install base of the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The DS has the potential to be the best-selling interactive entertainment platform ever,” said David Cole.

We have to be close to hearing something concrete on a Microsoft handheld. It just seems like a logical next step for them. I can’t imagine they’re content letting Nintendo and Sony battle it out. Frankly, I’m surprised we don’t hear more fans demanding it.

Microsoft currently has negative buzz on the Zune, and they still haven’t completely consolidated their position in the console market with the 360. Not quite yet.
