Medal of Honor: Airborne Interview, Screens, Video

Xbox 360 box coverIf World War I was “The War to End All Wars”, then World War II is “The War That’ll Never End”. With all the Call to Duty, Medal of Honor, and other World War II based games (such as Band of Brothers, WWII Online, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, etc.), you’d think that people would be tired of the genre. Well, some are, but apparently not enough for sales to drop, as Electronic Arts promises all-new content with the latest sequel in the Medal of Honor series, Airborne, and IGN has an interview with executive producer Patrick Gilmore, fresh screenshots, and new videos.

The airborne soldiers are listening to radio reports from the mainland as the 5th army lands and moves into Europe. Then there’s this devastating counterattack that threatens to throw the whole of the allied army (and remember, America was a completely unproven ally at that point) into the Mediterranean. They called the airborne out of reserve, and sent them over to Italy, where they landed among these 2500 year-old ruins in Paestum. They really were the cavalry. They saved the day. That determination not to lose got us our foothold on the continent. It’s one of the most heroic things I can think of, dropping into a losing battle to try to turn it around. There are stories of the airborne troops hearing the cheers of the soldiers on the ground from the moment their chutes opened. The guys on the ground knew everything was about to change. Awesome…And so we go, through Neptune, Market Garden, Varsity and beyond, the biggest air drops in the history of the world. The thing we try to track through all of this is the attitude toward the airborne forces—crazy and badass in Husky, rescuers in Avalanche, liberators in Neptune, and so on, on an odyssey that started in the 1940’s, and hasn’t ended to this day.

Medal of Honor: Airborne will be developed for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and is due July 2007.
