Xbox 360 Elite To Have IPTV Capability

Dean Takahashi, the man behind the two books detailing secrets behind both aunches of Microsoft’s consoles claims to have some new insider info on the Xbox 360 Elite.

The new production model will implement new, smaller 65 nanometer chips which will keep the 360 running smoother and more efficiently, hopefully solving any overheating issues. He also reiterates the fact that it will have a 120 GB hard drive and an HDMI port.

One of the big announcements Microsoft made at this year’s CES was the 360’s upcoming IPTV capabilities, which will allow users, with support of their internet company, to view high definition broadcasts via the internet. What was kind of strange though, was that they were pitching the idea to current 360 owners, and now it looks like they will have to purchase another box just to get it to work.

Kotaku’s Brian Crecente theorizes that we’ll get the official word sometime next week, which makes a lot of sense. The longer Microsoft prolongs releasing it, the more consumers will avoid purchasing a new 360, knowing that a new version will be hitting stores.

I seem to remember that this rumored product was going to be limited run until it becomes the “new” Premium. If that’s the case, why is IPTV now being pushed as the impetus behind this Elite? MS says IPTV will work fine on the current Premium box. Why would I pay for this upgrade when I may only occasionally require a larger hard drive. Certainly, IPTV does not need the new 65nm processor.
Strange new rumor. A lot of websites are going to look pretty stupid if this rumor doesn’t come true.
