And so it begins, Devil May Cry 4 is announced as a non-exclusive game to arrive on the Xbox 360 along with the PlayStation 3 console officially confirmed by Capcom. Consumer reaction to this?
To: Capcom
We (The people that have signed this petition) feel very left out in your decision to make Devil May Cry 4 a Multi-Platform title, and hereby agree to boycott your sale of Capcom affiliated games. This is due to your decision to turn your back on your most faithful gaming company. For years we have enjoyed games, we have reaped the benefits of your committment to Sony. We find it absolutely demoralizing for not only the gamers, but also Sony itself. We want you to know that will not, and should not stand for your actions, and therefore withold our option of buying your product.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
So, any clue if Sony wrote that? Let’s face it, if you’re really that upset because your precious console won’t completely dominate the industry this time around - you’ve got a lot of internal feelings to work out with yourself. Capcom took a more rational, perhaps political, approach to their response…
Christian Svensso, Sr. Director of Strategic Planning & Research, had this to say:
We are certainly moved that people are so passionate about our products that they would go to such extremes. At the same time we feel that allowing more people access to our content pleases far more people than it displeases (after all, we’re not denying DMC4 to anyone that was already going to get it). It really is the best decision for the company and for consumers.
Bluntly, the PlayStation 3 isn’t a market leader and nobody sees that occuring in the near future. Clearly Sony (or any other rational company) won’t buy the exclusivity of this title (even for six months) knowing full well the amount of product Capcom can sell into the gaming market with the Xbox 360.
Is this a horrible problem for Sony? Not really, exclusives are costly and may or may not prove to be useful for this generation of console. Apparently, it is a problem for Capcom because they’ve got fanboys beating down their e-mail. Perhaps those fanboys should be looking at the root of the problem: an expensive console with limited game selection.

Did you actually READ any of the signees? Some of them are pretty funny. (laugh)

Have you actually looked at some of the entries in the petition? It’s hysterical, some of the mock complaints people are making.

waaaaahhhhh!!
If they were completely losing the title to the 360, this would be understandable. But when you start blaming the publisher for trying to actually make some money on their product, that is just sad.
