Euro-PS3 Launch Woes Continue

Hush little baby, don't you cry...Sony’s decision to launch a ridicously priced console a year after the American and Japanese launch  continues to haunt them. A few days after the tepid Midnight Launch and Microsoft’s shenanigans, things continue to look dim for the next current-gen console.

A strong indication at the lack of interest in the console is that it is cheaper to buy a PS3 on eBay than retail. Insaneincomprehensible television ads probably didn’t help matters; losing exclusives to a cheaper console probably didn’t, either, and Folding, Home and Little Big Planet haven’t resonated with European buyers.

Once again, the question must be asked: is the PlayStation 3 doomed, and what must Sony do to increase interest?

I don’t think Sony’s PS3 is dead yet, Sony has a lot of money. Considering how much they’ve lost (you could start a third world country with that much) - I don’t think their ready to call it a loss.

They’ve got a lot of money to make up. Interestingly, it’s fun to speculate and watch things unfold. Ten years from now we can tell our kids about the console wars! :)

November 11th until March 23rd is a little less than a year by my calendar.

And according to my launch day experience it all went fine for Sony … at least where I bought my PS3 last Friday. The pre-order guys like me picked up their consoles and the normal buyer could pick up one as well. Out of the 80 consoles at my store around 50 were gone in the first 30 to 45 minutes and the rest of them wasn’t there this afternoon when I picked up a second wireless controller.
