New Gears of War Content Next Week

Despite many of it’s noticeable flaws, Gears of War’s multiplayer aspect continues to be supremely addicting as well as the top Xbox LIVE title week after week. But more adroit gamers out there have been taking advantage of many of the game’s glitches, rendering a bad experience for many of the newer gamers.

On the official Epic Games forums, Vice President Mark Rein posted a new thread stating:

The next title update for Gears of War is currently going through the certification process. We’ll have more detail about the update next week but I can tell you that in addition to fixing a whole bunch of glitches, and providing 720p for VGA users running at 1280×1024, it will contain a brand new multiplayer game type called Annex…Yes it will be free.

That last part is especially pleasing. Personally, I thought that the last add on pack would be the only free one, but it looks like Epic is standing by their tradition of supporting gamers long after the game has shipped–and for free. Annex sounds interesting, although let’s hope it’s just not another Assassination.

The one thing I’m hoping for: achievements in player matches. The game was built around playing as a team, and the fact that they don’t have some kind of team matchmaking or clan system is simply unpardonable.
