Gears of War Update To Include Respawning

We recently reported on a new Gears of War update that’s either going to be announced, or released sometime in the near future. Included in the usual bug fixes and general housekeeping will be a new game mode titled: Annex.
Speculation has been abound all throughout the internet, and more specifically on the Epic Games forums. So what exactly is Annex? Nobody quite knows for sure yet, though many users have been looking to the definition of the term “annex” which brings up many definitions that seem to point to a more territory or capture the flag based gameplay mode.
However, a territory based game would be pretty difficult given Gears’ one death and you’re out style gameplay. In a thread on the official Gears forums a user asked a similar question to which Cliffy B himself posted:

Maybe Cliffy’s just being coy and trying to mess with our minds, but with a completely new mode, one would imagine that there would need to be some type of reformation of gameplay. One thing though: spawn camping is gonna be terrible.

It’s not gonna be terrible, if Epic spawns you randomly across the map, or at least in a few different positions the other team will not be able to cover at once.

Considering you have 4×4 matches, spawn-camping wouldn’t be a problem.

i’m really looking forward to this gametype – it’ll be a nice breath of fresh air that this game needs!

I don’t see how, given the current map set, they could incorporate any respawning or CTF style gameplay. There would have to be some sort of either new maps or a different setup for weapons (put them by the spawn). I would like to see a ‘base wars’ type of thing where you had to protect your base while the other team tries to destroy it but again in the current maps there are no bases and again weapons. Still I know I can’t wait. And maybe this will keep people from LEAVING MATCHES! I have not played a match where at least one person didn’t leave in over a month!

Sure, they could get it right…but, I’ve played a ton of Gears and most of the gamers playing it will use just about any exploit to their advantage. This is a game where it wouldn’t take a couple people to take a guy down, all it takes is one shotgun shot or half a clip of any other weapon. Have you ever played execution when somebody lets you get back up then proceeds to keep knocking you down?…yeah, it’ll be kinda like that

interesting.. it’s like play WOW on GOW if they raise number of players on each team from 4 to 10 (or even 15)… of course, they need bigger maps

They were supposidly going to have this Update ready by april 9th. Though i have read that the update is under MCP (Microsoft Certification Proccess)and april 9th is not set in stone.
