Despite earlier rumors of SCEA severely cutting the legs off of Warhawk, by shrinking down the game into a Playstation Network exclusive, it looks like the game will now be hitting retail as well in Sony’s Blu-Ray disc format. However the single player mode is still stripped out in favor of a more multiplayer centric game.
There are no other announcements as of now on whether or not we’ll be getting a valued deal with either SKU of the game, or more content with one or the other currently, but 1UP’s Patrick Klepek adds a prediction that seems pretty spot-on to me:
The downloadable version could include all the basics — i.e. weapons, vehicles — needed to participate in a given multiplayer match, but provide the full range of maps as, well, microtransactions. The initial slate of maps would be included on the Blu-ray disc, while online-centric gamers can pick and choose which ones to purchase.
