RUMOR: Spring 360 Dashboard Update Leaked?

It’s tough times for Microsoft lately in trying to keep a secret up their sleeve. First, possibly the worst kept secret in gaming: the Xbox 360 Elite was prematurely unveiled weeks before their official announcement, and even speculated upon months ago.

Now, Engadget is reporting that Gamespot accidently put up a video of all the newest features coming up in the Xbox 360’s annual dashboard update. The rather unimpressive feature set is to include:

  • Adding Windows Live Messenger Contacts to your friends list (up to 600)
  • A “dedicated” Marketplace blade
  • Text chatting with Messenger Contacts
  • Chat with up to six contacts at once while playing a game
  • Messenger contacts can view your Xbox Live status
  • Your console can automatically shut down after downloading something
  • View partially downloaded videos

The Windows Live Messenger integration sounds pretty neat, but there aren’t really any of the groundbreaking features that we were hoping for.

The full video after the jump!

A dedicated Marketplace blade is a very welcome addition. Also, the automatic shut down after download will be nice. In-game chat is cool, too. The rest doesn’t matter to me. Overall, this is a good update.

The real update is cross-functionality with Live for Windows - one reason for the Windows Messenger functionality., for example.

I see no complaints here, good job MS
