Capcom Gamers Day: Street Fighter II, Resident Evil, and More!

Throughout its years, Capcom has developed quite a following through its unique franchises, memorable gaming icons, and addictive quarter-stealing arcade releases. Though they’ve had pretty good success overall, one could say their releases as of late have been pretty few and far between. Thanks to Gamespot’s Capcom 2007 Gamers Day Coverage, it looks like Capcom might just be making a run back to the top of the gaming industry.

One of the most notable franchises in gaming, and perhaps even most worn out franchises is the Mega Man series. And, surprise! Yeah, it’s not really that much of a shocker, but we’ll be getting two more Mega Man games: Mega Man ZX Advent and Mega Man Star Force, both coming out in October and August, respectively, and exclusive to the Nintendo DS.

A hand-on preview with Lost Planet’s PC version reveals that it’s not going to be a Games for Windows-endorsed game, so sadly no achievements nor cross-platform multiplayer. Lamenting for that though is the game’s cheap price point at $39.99

Gamespot’s Brad Shoemaker also got his hands on the upcoming Resident Evil titles to be released on the Nintendo Wii. The Resident Evil 4 port seems to look fairly promising, with a more accurate control mechanic for aiming. Is it worth rebuying though?

There’s not much else to say about the Wii edition of RE4, other than: If you never played RE4, and you have a Wii, you should get this game. (And if you never played RE4 and don’t have a Wii, maybe you should get a Wii to play this game; it really does look like the best version.)

Ready to battle it out in the courtroom are two different franchises receiving their own games. Harvey Birdman, the popular lawyer from the Adult Swim cartoon will be receiving his own game for both the PS2 and PSP. OBJECTION! Of course, Phoenix Wright’s not just gonna let some n00b take over the lawyer-sim genre. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trials plans to make the series’ third run on the DS, due out in September.

Released last year, Street Fighter II: Hyper Fighting on the Xbox Live Arcade had a ton of hype on its side. It would be one of the first versions of SFII to go online, and many arcade vets stayed up all night to be one of the first people to download it. It quickly became the fastest selling XBLA title to date, but the game had time on its side, because once reviews came out the sales quickly dropped. It was nearly an arcade-perfect port, at least the offline was. Combined with the Xbox 360’s wonky D-pad, the online lag made such a timed and reflex-based game almost unbearable.

Along with an HD remake of Super Puzzle Fighter 2: Turbo, Capcom’s getting a second chance from gamers when they release Super Street Fighter II: Turbo HD. Featuring both redrawn graphics, 1080p resolution, original graphics, and all the features you’ve come to expect from the PS3 and Xbox 360’s online services it looks like Capcom might finally be doing the fabled franchise right.
