Wii Will Pwn You With Sales Figures

The Nintendo Wii has yet again won the battle of statistics versus that of Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3 for March ‘07. It is well understood that, by now, Microsoft isn’t going to be posting huge numbers since they’ve been out for a year and some change now.
It’s the newer consoles that are “all the rage,” or so we’d think. Nintendo’s Wii console posted 259,000 unit sales says the NPD Group. Not too shabby for a system that’s impossible to find in the store. Obviously it’s possible for 259,000 gamers who are proud owners of the most rare console on the earth.
Microsoft “stuffed the channel” with 199,000 Xbox 360’s. Okay, NPD says they actually sold this many consoles so it’s probably not “channel stuffing” as some questionable financial reports attempted to say. They’re only 50,000 off from the Nintendo Wii, a console priced lower than their system.
The Sony PlayStation 3 sold 130,000 units, not so bad for a system that has few impressive games. Impressive being “awesome graphics” games that do not look like those on the Xbox 360. Sony’s lagging behind but until we see figures decline quickly they’re not out of the game yet.
I see the PlayStation 3 figures jumping upon the release of a few good PS3 titles. What about the PSP though? NPD Group says 180,000 PSP units have been sold. The figure looks great until you realize Nintendo handed out 508,000 Nintendo DS hand-held gaming systems in March.
That’s the breakdown for March. Will the Wii take April and May too?

Don’t forget the PS2, still selling out the 360.

Yes, and? You know how cheap and plentiful PS2’s are? There’s a reason Microsoft killed off the Xbox and Nintendo the GameCube - they wanted people to buy the NEW system. Why buy a PS3 when the PS2 has Guitar Hero II?

Just saying. Everyone seems to be counting Sony out, yet they are still leading in the game. They may not feel they need to start cutting prices on the new console, since they are still going strong on the old one.

Not to mention the PS2 has God of War 2, huge reviews for this game.
I’m still waiting for these great franchise properties to make PS3 games.
