Complete game exclusives are rare in today’s game industry but timed exclusives still exist. This is where a console is given a head start launch on a title hoping to keep their console sales growing and make the fans of that console feel special.
In a recent interview by GamePro, gave a few details about the game (very few) and hinted at a slight PS3 launch advantage. PS3Fanboy summed up the interview in a few bulleted statements. One of which was:
The game’s platform is still up in the air. PlayStation 3 and XBox 360 are obvious choices, but Akira hints at what may be a timed exclusive by saying that “we have had a good past experience with Playstation [where the series was born] and we hope to continue that trend.”
It is rare to find a company still dedicated to the PS3 movement as an exclusive (even timed exclusive) considering the vast amount of Xbox 360 units in homes around North America and growing (slightly) in Japan. What makes Silent Hill 5 such a rare breed? Our guess? Money.
Money talks, and Sony might be sliding a bit o’ cash towards the team to focus them on a PlayStation 3 launch. It sure wouldnt hurt Sony’s cause to get a few games on their platform that you cannot purchase on a cheaper console.

Good guess. I think its safe to say money is the reason for any exclusive.
