Me Too: Sony’s PlayStation 3 Elite?

Well, rumor continues to flare up now and again about a PlayStation 3 “Elite” console making its way to stores… soon? Well, if you believe the photo that Kotaku received in the mail then a PS3 elite is in the works.
Sony spokesperson Satoshi Fukuoka did mention their interest in large disk size for their console, but no concrete data was provided with his comments about disk size. Would they really remove a low-end SKU and replace it with yet another higher-end SKU?
It seems insane, considering the outrage some gamers have over the cost of the “good” release of the PS3. Would they try to gouge us in the market like Microsoft’s 120GB external laptop hard drive with a premium price?
Perhaps Sony would simply put out an add-on disk so gamers can upgrade their current purchase? If this photo is real, Sony is replacing one box with another, and only a minor upgrade in disk size. What’s 20GB in a world where 160GB is the bare minimum?

If Sony actually does release another version of the PS3 at this point, I think we may need to look into checking the entire management team into a psychiatric hospital, because they clearly have issues.

I don’t understand why everyone is going crazy over this. From everything I’ve seen, if Sony is actually doing this, they’re just quietly bumping up the hard drive space in the $600 model. Who says they are going to charge more for it? And if they don’t charge more, why is everyone bitching?
The rumors of this “version” came too quickly after people found out about the Elite, so this doesn’t look like a “response” from Sony to the Elite. I imagine they’re just trying to keep up with consumer expectations and prepare for future online offerings.
Sony doesn’t have 20 GB of downloadable material online right now, much less 80 GB. So why is everyone expecting a jump to 120 GB or more? The Elite was designed because Xbox Live offers more than enough content to fill up the 20 GB standard drives.
Again, this is not Sony’s response to the Elite, it’s an incremental upgrade to their product line that everyone would be welcoming if the Elite news hadn’t blown up just two weeks before it.
