I don't understand why everyone is going crazy over this. From everything I've seen, if Sony is actually doing this, they're just quietly bumping up the hard drive space in the $600 model. Who says they are going to charge more for it? And if they don't charge more, why is everyone bitching?

The rumors of this "version" came too quickly after people found out about the Elite, so this doesn't look like a "response" from Sony to the Elite. I imagine they're just trying to keep up with consumer expectations and prepare for future online offerings.

Sony doesn't have 20 GB of downloadable material online right now, much less 80 GB. So why is everyone expecting a jump to 120 GB or more? The Elite was designed because Xbox Live offers more than enough content to fill up the 20 GB standard drives.

Again, this is not Sony's response to the Elite, it's an incremental upgrade to their product line that everyone would be welcoming if the Elite news hadn't blown up just two weeks before it.

If Sony actually does release another version of the PS3 at this point, I think we may need to look into checking the entire management team into a psychiatric hospital, because they clearly have issues.
