Halo 3 Beta To Include Saved Films, Split-Screen

As we’re getting closer and closer to the launch of Halo 3, and even closer to the upcoming Beta, Bungie has gently started opening up it’s doors to reveal many of the secrets we’ve been scrounging through every corner of the internet for.

This week, Bungie’s Frankie O’ Connor let us in on some of the features we’ll be able to toy with on our three week tour of the Halo 3 beta — most notably the abilities to check out a very limited version of the saved films feature they’ve been taunting, as well as split-screen multiplayer.

The split-screen option will only be limited to two people, but it’ll show off some of the many improvements Bungie has made to the way it displays. Frankie stated:

We’ve also done something cool with the splitscreen display for HD monitors – instead of stretching the horizontal or vertical axes into big, scary too wide or too tall horrors, we’ve sensibly windowed the action, maintaining lots of screen real estate, but preserving a proper, playable aspect ratio

Also released on the weekly update is a diagram of the control scheme that’ll be used in the beta. You can check it out after the jump by clicking “Read more.”

You may have heard that Microsoft was pushing Bungie to optimize the final version of Halo 3 to run at 1080p and 60 fps, but O’ Connor is quick to debunk that rumor stating that it would limit too many of their resources such as HDR lighting, and general graphical effects.
