Nintendo has picked up Monolith Soft from Namco Bandai, or at least most of it. The report seems to translate (from Japanese of course) to about 80% of the company stock while Namco Bandai retains 16%.
Monolith Soft is responsible for the hit series Xenosaga a good PlayStation 2 title. Monolith Soft was founded by Hirohide Sugiura, formerly of Square (that little company that has something to do with Final Fantasy - you may know of them).
What does this mean for Nintendo? It means a third party developer that could have created some kick ass RPG style games is now under the wing of Nintendo themselves. Making it even more challenging for third party developers to out pace the Nintendo brandings.
What does it mean for us? It means Nintendo should be able to push out some hot titles for those that love the asian-style RPG worlds. Of course, that translates to a lot of people, probably more sales for Nintendo and a bit more dominance. It may also mean no more Xenosaga games for Sony…
