Puzzle Quest Heading to Xbox Live Arcade

Score! One of the hottest portable titles for the Nintendo DS and the PlayStation Portable is coming to Xbox Live Arcade. Joystiq is reporting that Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords will be hitting the Xbox 360’s downloadable gaming service.

For those of you living under a rock, or didn’t read the GameStooge reviewPuzzle Quest is the unholy child of Bejewelled and a roleplaying game, in which battles are fought between the gamer and his enemies with a Bejeweled type game. As the gamer gets more experience, he starts gaining abilities to affect the board.

This is a major coup, on the level of Catan, Carcassonne, and the rumored Puerto Rico.

How excited are you puzzle gamers for this acquisition, and if you already own a copy for the DS or PSP, will you be picking it up for the Achievements and online play?

[PS. Mad Tracks and RocketBowl were also included in the announcement as well.]

  1. Derrick Schommer Says:

I’m glad to see RocketBowl on the list, LargeAnimal needs more titles on XBLA.

As for PuzzleQuest, I’ve never played it only because I’ve not had time with all the other games I have.

I’m sure the title will kick ass (in terms of sales on XBLA) because we need more unique XBLA games, why? Microsoft needs to make sure XBLA continues to stay up-to-date and better than any Sony solution.

Want to sell consoles, produce quality games and have a download service with cheaper quality games. No one game will do it, but the collection of awesome titles will definitely make the difference.

If I had a choice on which platform to buy it? I’d skip XBLA and go with the DS version because casual puzzle games work well, for me at least, “on the go” in portable format.

If I’m sitting in front of my TV with a controller I’m more inclined to play longer games like Super Paper Mario, GRAW 2, Saints Row, etc. Something more in-depth.

I’m also guessing they’ll see the most sales from the DS release. There are TONS of DS’s in the market (more so than PSP even though I heard this game was better on the PSP).

But, in this day and age, get your product on the most platforms possible to yield the most results!

I enjoy games like Hexic on XBLA. And there will be multiplayer (and Achievements.)

  3. Derrick Schommer Says:

I don’t really care for multiplayer all that much, I’m not competitive enough. I use them to pass the time and such.

As for achievements, I love ‘em! But for this type of game, I’d rather have it mobile than have achievements. Although both would be glorious :)

  4. jonahfalcon Says:

I might get both - but that would end up costing $50 overall. ($35 for DS, $15 for XBLA, because you know this is a 1200 point title.)

But, on the other hand, it might be worth it, despite Devin’s 3.5 star review. (Others I know have raved about it.)

  5. Devin Grimes Says:

This is kind of a bummer, because it means I’ll have to spend even more time with this addicting game. If it’s anything like in terms of length the DS version, $15 is a steal. Storyline Sidequests = Easily over 100 hours.

3.5-ed it because it does get pretty repetitive after a while, and the DS touch controls are kinda finicky. I found myself occasionally hitting the wrong damn boxes and being penalized.
