DS Last Priority For Final Fantasy Titles?

Apparently we’re not going to see many new Final Fantasy titles because of resource limitations by Square-Enix. When choosing a platform to release game titles on, the DS isn’t as high as PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii.

CVG recently interviewed, Hiromichi Tanaka at Square-Enix and he had this to say:

(CVG): A lot of people are asking whether Final Fantasy VII will ever be available on DS? Tanaka: The main thing is the timing. If we have time it is possible to do a remake of an original game but because we are at the time where the machines are changing with Wii, 360 and PS3 coming out, the development team tends to work on these games so that’s the way things are going at the moment. This is the 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy III.

Not too surprising really, the Nintendo DS has great sales figures but the hardware is fairly limited in terms of awesome new game titles. Many gamers will probably agree, new Final Fantasy titles on new consoles are much more fun to play than remakes on hand-helds.

Maybe they need to build a DS-only development team? ;-)
