If you can listen carefully, you might have heard the hearts of fans of Will Wright and God sims falling into their lower torsos as FiringSquad reported that the uber-”Sim Everything” game known as Spore would be delayed til the second fiscal quarter of 2008.
During Electronic Arts’ financial conference call today, company execs stated that they will not be including the highly anticipated PC game Spore in their 2008 fiscal year plans. That means that $EA$ is not currently planning on the game to be released between now and the end of the 2008 fiscal year which ends on March 31, 2008. Spore, the evolution sim from Sims creator Will Wright, previously had a vague timetable for release for the second half of the 2007 calendar year.
What is truly worrisome about Spore is that virtually every public demonstration of the game has featured the same vertical slice over and over. This microbe-to-galaxy simulation is one of the most ambitious games ever tackled, and even though Will Wright is one of the “Gaming Gods”, the chance for Vaporwarehood is growing higher and higher.
