Blizzard Announces StarCraft II For PC/Mac

A koreans wet dreamEveryone all but knew what Blizzard’s super secret announcement in Korea was going to be but we didn’t get official word until now. Korea is the hot spot for Starcraft action, where they hold tournaments and continue to see Starcraft as one of the best games ever.

“With StarCraft II, we’ll be able to do everything we wanted to do with the original StarCraft and more … We recognize that expectations are high following the long-running popularity of the original game, but we plan to meet those expectations and deliver an engaging, action-packed, competitive experience that StarCraft players and strategy gamers worldwide will enjoy.”

Blizzard president Mike Morhaime’s words are now etched in the minds of all Korean gamers. One penalty for waiting so long to put out a second release of this game is the tremendous expectations that have become common place for such a title. The original hot Starcraft title was released in 1998, nine years ago, and now we’re told the second release is coming!

Can Starcraft 2 live up to the expectations of hardcore RTS gamers? At this point, do we just want another Starcraft wit a graphic revamp or do we want something new and unique? The last Starcraft title, named “Ghost,” has been “postponed” indefinitely (some people just don’t like the word cancelled).

Meanwhile, IGN’s man in Korea, Charles Onyett says, “SC2 looks, at least visually, strikingly similar to SC1 - both in unit and map designs.”
