Epic’s third person, megaton shooter, Gears of War, has brought with it, alongside a hell of a lot of fun, a good bit of confusion and controversy over the downloadable sector of Xbox Live. The latest patch expanded on the multiplayer gameplay, balancing some aspects, and even adding a completely new mode. Then of course, was the map controversy, but all worked out well in the end.
Continuing to support the title, Epic VP Mark Rein revealed to CVG that more plans for an auto-update are already underway, and along with some general housekeeping, they’ll be taking advantage of the available 250 achievement points developers can add to their games post-retail:
The next Gears of War update is coming along nicely. We don’t have a release timeframe for it yet but I just wanted to let you know we’re making significant progress. In addition to the previously mentioned plan to improve roadie run we’re also going to have new achievements relating to Annex and the Hidden Fronts DLC.
Gamers fearing getting strong-armed by Microsoft need not worry, the update will be free to all users — however, to take advantage of the achievements and “collect ‘em all” you’ll need the Hidden Fronts map pack, which will drop its 800 MS Point price and become free to all Xbox Live users this September.
