This Week’s New Releases: May 27 - June 2

It’s the final week of May, and the beginning of the summer for many of you youngin’s out there, and what better thing to do with your time than check out all the newest games. Unlike past weeks, this hebdomad in retail lineup is rather lush with quite a few potential triple-A titles.

This week’s sales are looking to tip in Microsoft’s favor, with two big titles heading to both of their “next-gen” platforms. First up is Forza Motorsport 2, the game that’s destined to be in every car nut’s disc drive far into the foreseeable future.

It looks to expand upon what many gamers declared the most accurate driving simulation of the last console generation with the online sector undergoing a huge reformation, and even more community features integrated everywhere from Xbox Live to your PC’s internet browser.

Whoa, Xbox Live to PC integration? Why yes, kind sir, and perhaps the biggest title to demonstrate this connectivity ships this week as well: Shadowrun for both the Xbox 360 and Games for Windows (aka PC). While many traditional pen and paper RPG fans of the original Shadowrun games may claim the revised edition to be a defamation to their beloved franchise, the game looks to bring a whole new ballgame to the frontlines of established gameplay with console gamers going head to head against PC gamers to find out which is superior: the mouse or the gamepad (hint: mouse).

Also of note is Halo 2 for Windows Vista. Okay, it’s not totally a shocker: the game’s been headlining this feature for the past couple of weeks. Once again delayed, but not quite (the game has been on my local Circuit City’s shelves for over a week) the original Xbox classic is now (hopefully) finally available.
