No Starcraft II In 2007

Not til 2008Joystiq is reporting that in an MSNBC interview with Bizzard’s vice president of game design Rob Pardo, despite being in full development since 2004 (which initial game docs begun in 2003), Starcraft II, which was announced less than 2 weeks ago with tons of fanfare in South Korea, won’t be hitting the shelves in 2007. During the interview, Pardo stated when ask about the release date, “It’ll ship when it’s ready…The only thing I can give you [that's] concrete is it’s not going to be this year.”

Which is slightly surprising, since the game’s graphics and gameplay don’t seem to be cutting edge, and the title has been in development for the last 3+ years. On the other hand, you don’t rush perfection. What is your feeling on the long dev time for Starcraft II?

  1. Derrick Schommer Says:

The graphics won’t matter, Nintendo has provided evidence to that.

What does matter, is the name and the genre. An RTS game that isn’t perfected is a real let down. Cave Dog proved just how important balance is where Total Annihilation and I think that’s #1 for RTS.

Graphics are nice, but it doesn’t impact the fun.

  2. Drocket Says:

That’s just Blizzard for you. Their games always take eternity and a day to be released, and despite being WAY behind the curve technologically, they’re always among the best games released. Just look at, well, every single Blizzard game ever made.
