Whoa, almost forgot it was Monday — which means more tasty (if not moldy) classics added to the Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console. Celebrating the 100th release on the Big-N’s downloadable service, not only are we getting a Zelda classic, but four titles, rather than the often standard three game cap:
- Dead Moon (TurboGrafx16) – 600 Wii Points
- Milon’s Secret Castle (NES) – 500 Wii Points
- Toejam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron (Sega Genesis) – 800 Wii Points
- Zelda II: The Adventures of Link (NES) – 500 Wii Points
Zelda II is an often debatable “classic” among the Hyrulian hardcore gaming community. Many feel that the series strayed too far from its predecessor, The Legend of Zelda, by adding in side scrolling gameplay to the once strictly top down viewpoint. Conversely, many also argue that Zelda II is one of the best games in the Zelda franchise, with the addition of RPG elements such as experience points and leveling up the sweet 16-year-old Link.
Which one is your favorite? Now that the first two titles in the Zelda series are on the Virtual Console, those that haven’t played this underappreciated classic can find out for themselves.
