Sony’s official site, Playstation.blog, informs us that the Playstation 3 will be getting a minor tune-up tomorrow with version 1.81 of the console’s firmware.
Don’t expect anything in the tune of the latest updates, however — it’s purely a fix for the videophiles out there with problems using the RGB video setting through HDMI. The official word from Sony:
Basically if you are connecting your PS3 to your TV using an HDMI cable, and if your TV supports RGB full range, the picture quality may be improved when this option is set to Full. Some of you pointed out that the Full setting would sometimes revert back to Limited and 1.81 will address this issue. Please keep in mind that this setting is only effective when the PS3 is connected to a TV using an HDMI cable.
Seeing prompt and effective updates is definitely a plus for Sony’s system, but firmware updates seem so much more exciting when you get a slew of new features at once, a la the Xbox 360’s Spring and Fall updates. Either way, it’s an added feature so it’s hard to complain.
