Episodic Tomb Raider: Anniversary Announced

Looks like we can chalk yet another one up for the ratings boards prematurely announcing a game, with the official announcement of Tomb Raider: Anniversary going episodic for the Xbox 360.
Eidos Interactive issued out a press release today stating that the remake of the original Tomb Raider will be the first full retail game available on the Xbox Live Marketplace, and will be divvied out in four episodes. If you’re not keen on clogging up your hard drives, don’t worry — also mentioned is that a retail version will be hitting store shelves shortly after.
We stated last time that Eidos could really lead the way in digital distribution of full “retail quality” titles, and they look to be following a path to success — at least as far as pricing is concerned. Altogether, the four episodes will run you 2400 MS Points ($30 USD), which is actually quite a bargain — the PS2 version launched for the same price, and we’re getting updated graphics alongside achievements and (presumably) leaderboards.
The catch: you’ll need a retail copy of last year’s Tomb Raider: Legend for the Xbox 360 — but that’s not necessarily a burden worth worrying about.
The first two episodes will launch this September, with the next episodes hitting “shortly after.”

So you can’t play this unless you buy another TR? Sneaky.
