Black Powder Red Earth Announced, First Screens and Trailer
For those that haven’t been following Gamespot’s Indievelopment series, Black Powder Red Earth is an upcoming Unreal Engine 3 first-person-shooter from Echelon Software with a few twists on the community aspects that put a heavy emphasis on social networking. A press release has went out today, alongside a few screens and a official teaser trailer for the game.
Hit the jump for the first screens and details.
Some of the highlights include:
- Multiplayer-only, allowing up to 16 players to battle online together
- Next-generation graphics powered by Unreal Engine 3
- 8 Contract campaign plays out in a detailed near-future 3D environments
- Earn “virt cash” to collect more than 100 parts and accessories
- Customize weapons, browse for new items, and build a career in a familiar Web interface in-game or from any Web browser at any time!
- Build a franchise private military company (PMC) with other players or create a competing store front to sell arms and gear to other players
- Association with former PMC operatives ensures realistic game play

As a fan of the Gamespot series, it’s pretty neat to see part of the culmination of Echelon’s work on the game, even with how uninterested I am in PC gaming. I’m not totally digging the graphics either, but it could just be the chosen art style — and it’s important to remember that the game still has a good bit of ground to cover before it hits retail.

I like it. It’s like Halo IV almost.
