Kotaku reported on the rumor first, and now GameDaily has come up with all but definitive proof that Sony’s PlayStation 3 will be receiving a USD $100 price cut starting the week of E3.
The speculation leading up to E3 has been focused on several key things, chief among them is whether or not we would receive a price cut on the extremely pricey 60 GB PS3. GameDaily contacted an anonymous store manager and came away with the following conclusion:
As it turns out, a merchandising manager (who wished to remain anonymous) at one of the world’s biggest retailers has confirmed to GameDaily BIZ that the price drop is indeed retail-wide and it’s scheduled to take place on July 12, although the first wave of ads to promote the PS3’s new price won’t kick in until Sunday, July 15.
Once again, Sony looks to have failed at keeping a secret, but more importantly: Will they fail the consumer? At USD $499, while still high, the price doesn’t look nearly as intimidating — especially since the price gap between the higher-end 360 Elite is now down to a mere $20.
Your move, Microsoft…
