PS3 Firmware 1.90 Inbound on NA, Already Out in Japan

The PlayStation 3’s Firmware version 1.90 has hit the shores of Japan, boasting a slew of new features and a release date of “coming soon” for North America and July 24th (tomorrow) for Europe.

The update brings about many often requested features, such as customizable backgrounds and the ability to organize downloadable PSN titles in the XMB. Then there’s also plenty of options you can toggle that many quite frankly haven’t heard of.

One of the new “feature focuses” for Sony in the latest update is detailed on PlayStation.Blog:

When you’re sending messages to friends on PLAYSTATION Network, you can now use emoticons. We’ve added a bunch of emoticons that can be easily accessed from the virtual keyboard. Also, another cool addition is, when an avatar is displayed during voice/video chat, the avatar will move in response to audio.
