Konami’s Metal Gear 20th Anniversary event in Japan was expected to bring about a few new entries to flesh out even more of the series’ long and convoluted story. MGS4 on 360, perhaps? Nope, sorry sir. Instead three new “games” were announced: Metal Gear Online, Metal Gear Solid Mobile, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Bande Dessinee.
With valiant attempts at creating an online community in the special edition of MGS3: Snake Eater behind them, Konami has announced an online 16-player “strategic multiplayer experience” exclusively for the PS3 titled Metal Gear Online. What’s cool, and then not so cool (more on that later) is that the game will be going into a closed 3,000 player Beta running from August 7th to September 3rd. The not-so-cool: it’s only available to those living in Japan. If that doesn’t affect you, then you can sign up at this link.

In a move that will make you say “huh?” Konami also dished out the details on their cell phone title, Metal Gear Solid Mobile. While it looks like Western gamers’ primitive phones couldn’t ever dream of running it (actual screen above), the storyline is set to fill in some of the details that happened in MGS3: Snake Eater.
Finally, another sequel was announced, this time called Metal Gear Solid 2: Bande Dessinee, which is a follow up to the PSP’s MGS “graphic novel,” which played through the events of the first Metal Gear Solid, offering up small bits of interactivity.
