Metal Gear Solid 4 Playable Demo VIDEO Downloadable From PS3 Online Store - 720p!

As I was rolling through my regular check up of the Japanese Playstation Store, I noticed that Metal Gear Solid 4 was in the number 1 spot for the “What’s New” listings. That seemed odd to me as the E3 video was more than a week old, so I clicked on it to see what the deal was. Lo and behold, there are two MGS4 videos listed for download, and one of them is the playable demo that has been amazing the entire video game industry since yesterday!
A 638MB video, it is the entire 15 minutes and 18 seconds everyone watched yesterday (Japanese-only subtitles, though). Only this time, you can watch it in 720p on your own HDTV (hopefully you have one). Just like everyone else, I watched the video online yesterday also and I have to say, you must re-watch it if you have an HDTV. If you were blown away watching it in a tiny window over the internet, your head will explode while watching it on your own HDTV. If you want to know what it will be like playing MGS4 in your own home, this is as close as you’re going to get for at least six months.
Is MGS4 the reason to buy a PS3? Hell, this video is the reason to buy an HDTV!
* If you still don’t have a damn Japanese account, get movin’!

I’ll wait for the Xbox 360 version with extra missions.

Jonah,
I’m not sure how familiar you are with the MGS series, but the appeal of this game is the elaborate and intricate story and how the unique gameplay is weaved into it. Hence the reason why most ADD FPS gamers criticize MGS for its “boring 20 minute cutscenes.”
If you’re someone who likes “extra missions” tacked onto the game just for the sake of having something that the PS3 doesn’t, then you’re probably not the type of person MGS is marketed to in the first place.
To me, the gameplay itself isn’t the big draw to this game. So, as long as the complete story is there, that’s all I (and most true fans of the series) care about. And the MGS4 story will be identical no matter what platform the game is released on. That cannot be argued.
If 360 fans feel special because they can pound through 20 additional variants of a training simulator, then I think that’s great for them. They’ll probably just skip the actual game and go right to the instant action (followed by weeks of forum posts about how MGS4 sucks because there’s no online multiplayer
). I say “weeks” because that’s all it will take for another FPS game to come out and all the 360 fans who taunted and screamed for 2 years about getting MGS4 will forget about the game that they really weren’t sincerely interested in to begin with (other than as a way to dig at PS3 owners).
But, for me, the possibility of all those deep extras isn’t enough to excite me and it’s certainly not enough to make me wait for any 360 version.
All kidding aside, though, did you really like the extra VR missions in Substance? I agree that if you don’t mind waiting then obviously you might as well buy the version with more content regardless of what that content is. But I just can’t imagine that the 360 owners who bought Substance wouldn’t have traded the extras for having it day and date with the PS2. Did you buy it, Jonah?

Wow…
I think Jonah was simply pointing out how the last two Metal Gear Solid games came out, and then later rereleased with additional content. MGS2’s was also on Xbox, though I don’t recall if MGS3 Subsistence ever came out on XBox or not.
He’s just saying that although it’d be a PS3 exclusive, there’s a good chance it’ll come out on 360 later with more content (possibly in the form of “extra missions”). I’m the kind of fan MGS markets to… I loved MGS2’s storyline and the long cutscenes and whatnot, but I don’t have a PS3, don’t plan on buying one, and I’m also waiting for the 360 version (which I’m fairly certain will come at one point or another) — whether it has extra missions or not.

Chronodin,
I think you may be new here. You don’t know our dear Jonah!

[...] (140MB) that is more of a full featured trailer for the game. Oh, and there’s that little Metal Gear Solid 4 playable demonstration video [...]

Well, I’m going to have to join MitchyD in Japanese account creating. I found a decent site if anybody gets lost:

Thanks, Devin. That’s a much better site than the one I’ve been linking to. It’s nice to actually see the English translations on screen.

I think I’d rather play ASAP than later, added missions or not.
Why does everyone say the last two MGS games went to the x-box? It was ONE GAME - Snake Eater never, ever went to it… Neither did the original, however, it did get a rad GCN port.

Why is there so much hatred between 360 & PS3? 360’s got Halo, PS3 fans ain’t complaining, PS3’s got MGS4, but 360 fans are crying and making them feel better by say …’yes it WILL come out on the 360….IT WILL I SAY!!!’ Go get a well payed job and buy both consoles, if u can’t, shut up then…
