While no details have arisen yet (save that it is not L.A. Noire) Sony has announced that they’ve snagged a slick new deal with Rockstar, securing a brand new franchise exclusively on the Playstation 3. Revealed recently on GameHead, Jack Tretton made the formal announcement and a recent blog post tantalizes us a little more. What could it be? Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto series is obviously astounding, Bully was a great new game and their rendition of the cult film The Warriors brought back Beat-em’-Up memories of the nineties in a brutal manner.
Everyone knows to have success in this business you need to look ahead, identifying the talent and titles that are going to give consumers new kinds of gaming experiences that help set the bar for the rest of the industry. Rockstar has a heritage for doing just that. We have had incredible success with the GTA franchise and are happy to continue to offer those titles on our platforms, and even more excited about what’s to come from the current and future relationship between our companies. Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of CELL and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that.

While it’s nearly impossible to guess what kind of baby these bed-mates might produce, does anyone have an idea of what’s to come? From hooker killin’ to high school drama, and 70’s gangs clobbering each other, I’d say their options are limitless… Let’s see what they can make the PS3 do.

Now, I wonder how much money it costs Sony to secure this new game. Considering the sales they’re giving up by not putting it on the dominant western console.

Jack Tretton says a LOT of things. Something really fishy about this. Didn’t Tretton claim “we don’t buy exclusives!” Where are the real journalists who ask questions?
Actually, Tretton probably has no idea what it is. He just knows only the CELL processor could handle it!

I think the cell is capable of a lot of things… it just hasn’t been utilized.
