Warhawk Goes Gold, Priced

Warhawk’s Game Director Warren Jobe recently announced that the PlayStation 3 exclusive has officially gone gold, and finally revealed the two different price points for the game.
Reviewable copies are already in game journalist’s hands, and as of now the game is “completely finished.” As we’ve all heard counteless times, two versions of Warhawk will “ship” on August 28th, one being a download-only version and the other being a boxed retail version.
1Up recently raised the question as to how much the game would cost in both versions, and now Jobe has addressed these issues, stating that the boxed version will retail for $59.99 and the PSN downloadable will be $39.99. Why make a retail version?:
The retail game is more of a premium version with some expanded video content, traditional package and manual (this seems to mean a lot with some of the gamers I have spoken to), and a Jabra Bluetooth headset bundled with the game – all for $59.99!
After hearing many good things about this title, I’ll definitely be picking this one up at retail (BlueTooth Headset!). What about you guys? It’s definitely the priciest (and “gamiest”) release over a downloadable service, which may turn many gamers away. Let us know in the comments…

Ugh… I could use a free headset, but 60 bucks is steep. I already have one, but it blows.
Also, I wonder how the EGM review has fared out - they were waiting on one of the price points and now it’s both…

You can’t compare this to other downloadable PSN or Live games. This is the first of many full games that will be released for download over PSN (Yes, an online only game can be considered a “full” game. It’s going to be happening a lot more in the future, so gamers need to get used to it). Warhawk is simply in a different category than games like flOw, Calling All Cars, and even Tekken. And, if what I’ve heard is correct, Shadowrun was released strictly as online-only and was sold for $60 with no headset or equivalent pack-in.
Also, MitchyD, I don’t know if you’re aware, but I was in the Beta. Without saying much more, I will tell you that between Lair, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank, and whatever else is coming out for the PS3, the only one I am painstakingly counting the days to is Warhawk. The only multiplayer games I look forward to more are Socom and possibly Call of Duty 4 (no, I’ve never been a big fan of Halo multiplayer). $40 is nothing for this game in my opinion. I can’t wait to get back in that pilot seat.
On a side note, did you read the part about the top 100 beta players getting pins and signed game covers? I think I ended up around 112 in total points, but since they’re basing the rankings on bonus points (not total points), I may be higher (or lower), despite playing the game for only 24 total hours (nearly everyone in the top 100 had 40-70 hours).
Sorry, just had to brag a bit. I loved Warhawk and miss it.
I hope to see MitchyD and Devin up in the skies later this month.

Dude, I’ll be wrecking your shit on Sept 4th. WRECKIN’ it. Not likely. I’m terrible at multiplayer games… We’ll be a team

I wish I was in the beta… I missed out by like a DAY.
