‘Home’ Could Replace XMB

Think about this. You boot up your PS3 one day, and instead of being taken to the ‘oh so familiar XMB’ you’re taken straight to your Home. Sounds good right? Not so much. Well that’s what Sony and the developers of Home want to do. Let’s hope they listen to the people before they do something that drastic. Here are some interesting facts about Home you may not have known about.

  • Currently, Home limits the number of users in a single room to 64.
  • Developers of Home have made travel between different zones in Home a lot more straightforward.
  • Work on the primary features of Home is expected to continue for at least a year
  • There are people within both the developers of Home and the larger Sony organization who would very much like to see Home completely replace the XMB. They would like users to directly be put into Home when they boot up their console.

So don’t be too shocked when you turn on your PS3 and are greeted by your Home.

I don’t mind being booted directly into Home as long as it works the way they claim it will and the XMB is still available from inside Home. I don’t really think they’d require you to boot into Home, then walk over to the movie theater or arcade just to watch a movie or play a game.

I imagine booting into Home would almost act as an interactive backdrop to the XMB. Once you’re there, I’m sure you can just bring up the XMB like normal.

That’s a good point. If they do decide to boot you straight into Home, that it’s a voluntary thing. Not a mandatory thing.

Wow, DG, pretty good article, try to make the next longer, K?

    *If I had a ps3*

I’d really like the idea of Home. It sounds very innovative, and intriging. Instead of the crossmenu (which is with the ps3 too, if I’m correct) you go to your Home and start everything inside of Home.

That’s much better than any menues.

    And again, great job.
