Oh, Gears of War… it’s been a smashing hit and still reigns as one of X-Box Live’s most top played multiplayer games. I suppose that two free maps added to the longevity, and then releasing the Hidden Fronts map pack for 800 points gave players even more maps; four that is. Well, many of us were sucked in to paying out Epic/Microsoft for the gorgeous new additions, but a lot of you weren’t so avid about shelling out ten bucks for four new play areas. Well, September 3rd is looming, and if you recall, these four maps (listed below) will become free that day. Too bad Halo 3 is out in less than a month, and will make Gears obsolete. Oh well. These maps are all totally awesome and worth your download time. Hell, they were worth ten bucks, but now they’re yours for free on Monday.
Enjoy your maps regardless. You might as well play them to get that last bit of goodness squeezed out of Gears of War before the end of September. Check out the map details after the jump.
- Bullet Marsh: In this Kryll-infested swamp, an old generator still powers the area lights. A few stray bullets could easily knock out the generator, leaving combatants to fend for themselves against the Kryll.
- Garden: This overgrown and crumbling conservatory still has a working fertilization and pesticide system. This system can pose a serious hazard to anyone who ventures into the greenhouse without first venting the air.
- Process: Teams must fight for control of this subterranean Imulsion processing plant, still active despite the cessation of the Pendulum wars.
- Subway: Timgad’s Central Subway station used to serve as a central hub for commuters. Now the tunnels are crawling with Locust.
